AT139 - Drawing Portraits Class

This class will concentrate on creating portraits of your fellow man, woman or child using graphite, charcoal or any medium suitable for work on paper. Emphasis will be the keen observation of light and attention to proportions within the human form. Whenever possible we will work with a model, but we may also use photos as a source for drawings.

Peter Guay is a graduate of Swain School of Design with a BFA in painting.  He has used his artistic abilities throughout his life to inform other skills and vocations such as carpentry, contracting and computer programming.  As a recent retiree, Peter now fills his time doing fine art and focusing on Portraiture, Drawing and Painting.  He is a member of the South Coast Artists and frequently participates in Life Drawing at open studios in MA and RI.  He currently works out of his studio at Sandy Woods center for the Arts in Tiverton.

Materials and supplies:

  • Graphite and/or Charcoal Pencils (Graphite range from B – 8B)

  • Vine charcoal or any type of charcoal stick

  • At least one kneaded eraser (Important!)

  • Pad of drawing paper 11” X 14” or larger
