Bartleby the Scrivener Poetry Group is being revived this year at The Dartmouth Cultural Center, 404 Elm St, in Dartmouth MA 02748.  We will meet evenings on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30—8:30. Our first gathering will be on April 16.  All seasoned poets, budding poets, and those desirous of writing or listening are welcome. Featured guest readers may occasionally be invited.  Please bring two copies of one or two poems or lyrics to read aloud or recite for listening, applause, and brief, participatory discussion.  The focus will be on enhancing poetic form, expression, skill, and joy.  A wide variety of activities and writing prompts will be discussed as well as how to best structure our group.  A small donation of $5 per session is requested to defray cost of operations and to photocopy compilations.  Please register at any time, no fee is required.

David Formanek is known as a sculptor but spends as much time or more on poetry.   He is currently working on a series of elegies based on a recent visit to Croatia and has written a four-volume verse memoir about an American childhood in the Cold War Vienna and Europe. He makes his recent sculptures by hammering texts into materials. During the New Wave era he led an art rock band and wrote some of its songs.  Formanek earned his art degrees at SUNY, Albany.  He also studied architecture at Harvard and Greek archeology at both those places.  He has worked in Boston area museums of anthropology, philately, and a celebrated naval warship, The USS Constitution.  David designed and curated the museum of sculptor Cyrus Dallin in Arlington before moving to Tiverton, RI.
