CC159 - THE KNITTING STITCH-UATION

Beginner-Friendly knitting class! Cozy up this winter while you keep warm and your hands busy.  Learn the practical, yet infinitely creative art of knitting.  Projects may include but are not limited to; hand warmers or fingerless gloves, scarves or a lap blanket. You will learn first how to hold your needles, how to cast on and bind off, you’ll learn about the basics of knitting and pearl stitching, the garter stitch, the ridge stitch and the seed stitch.  You’ll learn to change colors, pick up dropped stitches and a few different patterns.  This class will work on straight needles and we’ll begin with the size suited for most patterns.  

 

Materials list:

straight knitting needles size US 7 (4.5 MM)

1 medium 4 ply skein of yarn. Your choice of color. 

A bag to keep it in.  A Shaw’s type bag is fine, but you can get as fancy as you like.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Dawn Tavares is a medical major with an eclectic passion for fiber arts crafting.  Knitting and crocheting have been lifelong hobbies.  The enjoyment of knitting is the challenge to create something useful and beautiful out of simple strands of yarn.  The unique patterns and textures available are limited only to your skill and imagination. Dawn is a native of Dartmouth.  She also enjoys teaching and learning something new.  Her other recent hobbies are quilting, gardening and canning.
